What is Young Eagles?
The EAA Young Eagles program was launched in 1992 to give interested young people, ages 8 - 17, an opportunity to go flying in a general aviation airplane. These flights are offered free of charge and are made possible through the generosity of EAA member volunteers.
Since 1992, more than 1.5 million Young Eagles have enjoyed a flight through the program. Young Eagles have been registered in more than 90 different countries and have been flown by more than 41,000 volunteer pilots.
Participation is easy. Click Here to find the closest volunteer pilot. From there, arrange a convenient time to go flying. We hope you enjoy a Young Eagles introduction to the exciting world of aviation. Make sure you come back to visit this web site after your flight to continue exploring the wonderful world of aviation!
So what will your flight be like?
The biggest question on your mind might be about the actual flight. So what should you expect?
First of all, your pilot will explain what will happen during the flight. This might include talking about the airplane; reviewing an aeronautical chart (or map); identifying reference points during the flight; completing a careful "walk around" preflight inspection of the airplane and identifying the parts that control the airplane.
Once you are ready to go flying, your pilot will help you buckle your seat belt and describe the interior of the airplane, including the instrument panel. Pretty soon, it will be time to go flying!
Once in the air, you'll see the earth and sky in a new and exciting way. You'll experience the wonderful freedom of flight that many people only dream about. If you are like most Young Eagles, you'll remember this experience for the rest of your life.
Young Eagle flights last between 20 and 30 minutes. Once back on the ground, there will be additional time for you to ask questions about the flight. Ask away! Your pilot will be happy to tell you more about flying and their particular airplane. And don't forget, you'll also receive an official Young Eagles certificate, which is signed, by your personal pilot and our Co-Chairman Harrison Ford.

Bluebirds fly-in for a picnic
Success!
We had a beautiful day for a fly-in picnic at Phillips Field, near California, MO.
Phillips Field is home of Cal-MO Flying Club, which co-hosted with EAA Chap 429.
After cancelling three times due to a soggy field and/or rain,
we finally had a good day on Sun., June 6, 2010, for a fly-in/new hangar open house/BBQ/potluck.
Blake & Karla flew in the Cessna 170b from Fulton.
Lanny pulled his Cessna 170A out of the hanger to create the party room.
Dennis & Phyllis came in his Zenith 701.
Tom Jones and Al Boggs displayed their new KitFox. They are new Cal-MO members.
Bill Fowler flew his Cessna 172 in, which will live in the old hangar.
Gerald Wood showed his Kolb Firestar UL, folded up in a trailer.
More than 50 people dined on burgers, hot dogs, potluck, and six kinds of brownies.
Lots of reminiscing and good times. It was featured in the California newspaper with photos!

Bluebirds Fly-in to the Jefferson City Airport
We had a good turn out. I not sure we could have flown any more Young Eagles. I guess if it hadn't been raining we would have had a few more pilots. The official count is seventy three. Chet eight , Blake twenty one , Bob Morgan twenty seven, and Ted sixteen. The Kingdom Pilots Association made a strong showing. They donated the use of the griddle, some tables, flew in and pitched in. The University Hospital and Clinics Staff for Life, Air National Guard, Jefferson City Fire Department, Cirrus aircraft all made appearances.

We had a great time at Scotty’s Airdrome (Brent Scott). There are some photos of his hanger, two plane projects, old radial engines and cars in our next newsletter.
